Hello guys! I am MagicalJoey, and I will be heading up some fun times and prompts from here on out (with the help of the team). We would like to jump start the group again, and with that – a bit of a challenge for May. If you aren’t all familiar with Special Holiday Fun, we are going to introduce you in the best way possible. Each month will feature a Special Holiday prompt for you guys to gain inspiration from and give us something wonderful!

ALSO! We shall be doing some weekly prompts for you as well. These are generally going to be photo or phrase prompts, but could also be word, music, video or Special Holiday Fun related and will vary in word counts to mix up the challenge. Everyone who enters this challenge will get a month long feature by the group, so we hope the incentive is high enough for you guys to really participate! Let’s see what you got!!

This year, 2017, is "International Sustainable Tourism for Development" year. While this doesn't sound all that 'writable', it does allow for short stories about other 'foreign' places or people, even some non-fiction too (think travel experiences, sans Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy). So, if you want to write anything on this prompt you have 2017 words (see what I did there) minimum to write your story. (Try not to make it more than 10k words...some of us readers are old and wear glasses and all that jazzy stuff).

May, among other things, is my birthday month (it's also 'Get Caught Reading' and 'Photo' Month) so your challenge will be to write something relating to birthdays/birthday parties. There is a lot of freedom in this - you can write fiction, non-fiction, historical fiction (think the birthday of the Queen or maybe someone more obscure like a soldier in a war celebrating his birthday in a foreign land while fighting) (remember, if you need some Historical Fiction Help you can pop a note to doughboycafe or neurotype-on-discord who are the 'experty peoples' in this genre). There is no word limit for this one, though try to fit within DA's guidelines please as some of us are old and need specs to read things ;P

Now, for Weekly Prompts. Due to a very high work loadBecause I am lazy now that I've lost my job, I am unable to update this regularly each week, so what I will do is place all four week's prompts at once. This gives you the added option of doing a future week's prompt if you don't like the current week's one. Weekly prompt entries will be placed in the featured folder for the next month, along with the month's entries, giving you a whole month's feature on our page.

Week One: 1 May - 7 May:
Thursday 4 May is "Star Wars Day" and so I present you with this first week's challenge. Take a Star Wars character, from the old or the new movies, and write a 'day in the life of' piece about them. Remember, you are writing about the character not the actor/actress. You have 7827 (spells "star") words maximum to play around with.

Week Two: 8 May - 14 May :
Monday 8 May is "No Socks Day" and so your second week's challenge is to write about missing/lost socks. Where do they go? What do they do? What are they plotting? You can really go wild here with conspiracy theories and such (are they plotting to take over the world one cold foot at a time?) and so I leave you with a maximum of 7685 (spells "sock") words to play with.

Week Three: 15 May - 21 May:
Saturday 20 May is my actual birthday, so for this challenge I'm going to be needy and request-driven (aren't I always ;P ). Write a story/poem about one of my OC's which can be found in This Lovely Clicky Folder Here. You have no word limit for this challenge, except your imagination/DA's rules and guidelines. If you are so inclined, you can illustrate your story/get someone to illustrate it for you, but this is not necessary. I love all literature/art of my characters (don't we all) and so I look forward to you letting your imaginations run wild. Keep it PG16 with nothing NSFW (some blood/gore is ok in moderation).

Week Four: 22 May - 28 May:
Monday 22 May is "Sherlock Holmes Day" and so, without further ado, you are tasked to write a mystery/thriller/crime drama type story. Think of famous novelists like Jeffrey Deaver or Lee Child or Patricia Cornwell or Kathy Reichs (they're my favourite anyway) and how their stories grip you and take you down one path only to sneak in such a twist that the person you thought did it could in no way have done it and so you have to think again upon the evidence provided. For this challenge, although I am looking for stand-alone stories it can be a chapter (if you have a book you're writing in this genre) as long as you summarise what's gone on before the chapter you post. You have 500 words minimum to play around with. Give us something interesting and thrilling.

Week Five: 29 May - 31 May:
I couldn't find a nice 'holiday' for these three days, so have a nice music video I found. You have an additional task here - make it a flash fiction piece of 500 words or less. Whatever this piece inspires in you - write about it.

And that, my friends, is when May ends and the month of job searching and rain begins. Enjoy! And remember, any questions can come directly to the group, to myself MagicalJoey or to any one of the admins.
